Dr. Leonard Tyko is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon dedicated to providing exceptional surgical care with compassion, precision, and a strong commitment to patient well-being. Dual trained in both medicine and dentistry, Dr. Tyko combines extensive surgical expertise with a patient-centered approach focused on improving oral health, function, and quality of life.
As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Tyko has demonstrated a continued commitment to the highest standards of surgical excellence, ethics, and patient care.
Education and Surgical Training
Dr. Tyko earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of California, Riverside before receiving his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from University of California, Los Angeles.
He later obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he also completed a general surgery internship and his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
In 2000, Dr. Tyko returned to his home state of California and joined Santa Rosa Oral Surgery.
Leadership and Professional Service
Dr. Tyko has served as Chief of Dentistry at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and was an active member of the hospital's facial trauma team, helping care for patients with complex maxillofacial injuries.
He also served as President of the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, where he contributed to the advancement of oral health advocacy and legislation throughout California.
Beyond clinical practice, Dr. Tyko is deeply committed to service and education. He has volunteered with California CareForce to help provide free dental care to underserved communities through mobile healthcare clinics across the state. He also regularly lectures at local colleges and participates in continuing education programs for dental and medical professionals.
Personal Interests
Outside of surgery, Dr. Tyko enjoys spending time with his four children, coaching Little League, and exploring the outdoors. His passion for adventure has taken him around the world, including hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and summiting renowned peaks such as Mount Shasta, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Mont Blanc.

Dr. Tyko was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in recognition of his outstanding service, leadership, and dedication to the specialty of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
